To promote safe riding and raise awareness, in the Southend Rochford and Castle Point areas, of  motorbike casualties and the devastating impact on families and loved ones.

Poster designed by Martin Powell

The South East Essex Community Safety Initiatives (SEECSI ) Partnership are launching a new campaign to try and reduce Powered Two Wheeler ( motorbike) casualties in the Rochford, Castle Point and Southend areas.

There were 260  K.S.I. ( killed and seriously injured) motorcycle casualties in Essex in 2007 of which 41 were in the above mentioned districts.

As part of the month long campaign starting in late September 20 buses will travel throughout the districts carrying posters on the back. Additional posters will be displayed in prominent places within the area and it will also feature on our website www.seecsi.com

The posters portray a mother whose son was killed 4 years ago and illustrates that  the death of a loved one has a ripple effect to family and  friends which goes beyond the initial tragedyand impacts in many ways for years afterwards.

We would also like to thank the Bridgnorth Community Safety Partnership (Shropshire) who assisted us with part of our campaign and feel that this is  truly an excellent example of countrywide partnership working .

Dan Carlin, Chair of SEECSI said
“Motor bikes accounted for just under 30% (22) of our fatal injuries in Essex in 2007 and every time I pass a bunch of flowers left at the roadside it makes me shudder to think of the devastation each one of them represents to families and friends of the victims. We all have a responsibility to make every effort to help reduce the misery caused by these sad events.”
